Test your translation app before you travel
A practical pre-trip checklist for language direction, audio, connectivity, names and numbers. Test the conversations you actually expect to have.

Test a real conversation, not just hello
Prepare a hotel question, a restaurant order and a request for directions. Include a place, a date or a number of people, and try both languages. A successful greeting alone does not show how a tool will handle your trip.
Check the recognized words separately from the translation. If the transcript is wrong, check the microphone, noise and language selection first. If the words are right but the meaning is not, shorten the sentence and replace vague pronouns with names.
Check language direction and audio separately
Make sure the language you speak and the language the other person should hear are not reversed. Then test the other direction. Use short sentences to confirm the setup before a longer exchange.
Listen through the phone speaker, then test the headphones you will actually carry. Volume, Bluetooth routing and headphone settings can affect playback. A connected headset does not by itself prove that left and right channels are separated.
Verify the offline fallback
Check whether your installed version supports local translation for the required languages and whether resources must be downloaded first. After downloading, test without a network in the way the product supports. Do not assume an offline fallback works until you have tried it.
Keep a written copy of your hotel name, address and emergency contacts. It remains useful when the network is unavailable or you cannot translate a sentence immediately.
Confirm names, numbers and important details
Show prices and times in writing and ask the other person to confirm them. For medical, allergy, contractual or safety-critical information, do not rely solely on automatic translation; seek qualified human help where needed.
Heyo is a tool to assist cross-language communication. Availability depends on the installed version, selected languages and device conditions. A short test before departure is more useful than guessing during a conversation.
